Make your own Cat Scratching Posts.
Cats have to scratch. It is their way of exercising and removing old claw sheaths. Apart from that, it just feels good. You can buy cat scratching posts, make your own, or just sit back and watch your sofa destroyed.
Cat furniture items do not have to be complex or difficult. They need to be stable, though. Let’s think about basic cat scratching posts, they need only 3 components; a base, a post, and a top. We’ll look at each.
Cat scratching posts need to be stable. A post that is likely to tip over when in use will scare the cat away, often never to return. The base of the post should be at least 18″ by 18″ square and cut from three fourth inch plywood or particle board.
The base could be painted, covered with carpet, or covered with sisal fabric. Carpet holds up better, and, if you have scraps left over from carpeting your home it will match your décor. Cut pile carpet will not snag your cat’s claws like shag or loop.
